What this Yin class is

A slow, soothing half-hour to unwind the upper back and neck — no props, nowhere to be, just you and your mat. We open the upper back with eagle arms, ease the spine with gentle seated twists and side bends, then melt down into anahatasana (melting heart) with a rest in crocodile before opening across the shoulders in bow tie. We finish long and quiet in child’s pose. It’s the perfect antidote to hunched shoulders and a tight, tired neck.

Who this class is for

Anyone carrying tension in their upper back, shoulders or neck — especially after long days at a desk or on a screen. It’s beginner-friendly and gently paced, so it works whether this is your first Yin class or you’ve been practicing for years. New to Yin? Follow the shapes at your own speed and take the softer option whenever you need it.

What you need

Just your mat and a warm, quiet space where you can be still for half an hour. This is a no-props class, though you’re welcome to fold your mat over for a little padding under the knees in melting heart or child’s pose. Every pose has a gentler option and a deeper one — choose the version that suits your body today, and press pause whenever you need to.

Common questions

Do I really need no props for this class?

None at all — just you and your mat. If your knees feel tender in melting heart or child's pose, folding your mat over for a little extra padding is lovely, but it's entirely optional. Come as you are.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes. Everything here is gentle and slow, and I talk you into each shape as we go. Eagle arms, twists, melting heart and bow tie all have a softer option, so you simply find the version that feels right for your body today.

I sit at a desk all day and my shoulders are stiff — will this help?

This is exactly the kind of practice for hunched, desk-tired shoulders. We open across the upper back and chest and ease the neck in every direction, holding each shape long enough for the tension to soften. Move within your own comfortable range and never force a stretch.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
