The 15-Minute Post-Run Reset

Ten minutes of moving warm-up before you run — and the word moving is the point. Everything here flows: Tiger pose lifting and rounding, big slow circles with the knee to open the hip socket, lunges, then the Warrior sequence to wake the legs up properly.

Why this one doesn’t hold anything

If you’ve done my Yin classes you’ll notice this is a completely different animal, and that’s deliberate.

Long, passive holds right before a run can leave you feeling loose and a little less powerful — not what you want in the first mile. Before a run your body wants to be woken up, not lengthened out. So we move: joints through their range, glutes firing, hips opening under their own steam.

Save the long holds for afterwards. That’s when they earn their keep.

What you’ll do

Tabletop into Tiger pose on each side, with the option to catch the foot and find a quad stretch at the top. Then hip circles — knee to elbow, out to the side, back behind you — three each way, which does more for a runner’s hips than any static stretch could in the same time. Downward Dog with the feet paddling to wake the calves. A low lunge with a twist on each side. Then Warrior I, Warrior II and Reverse Warrior, both sides, before rolling up to standing.

No props, no floor work beyond the first few minutes, and you can do it in your running kit.

After the run

This is the warm-up half. For the other end, I’ve made a free 15-Minute Post-Run Reset — a follow-along Yin class for right after you get back, with a hold timer and written cues so you can practise screen-free once you know the shapes. It’s yours to keep.

Common questions

How long is this Yin Yoga class?

It runs about 10 min. Yin is slow and floor-based, so you can settle in — and pause any time you need to.

Do I need any props for this class?

No props needed — just a mat and a warm, quiet space. A cushion or blanket nearby is always welcome for extra comfort.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes. It's an all-levels class — every pose has a gentler option, so work at about 80% of your edge and ease off whenever you need to.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
