What this Yin class is

A gentle half-hour of Yin to close the day and stretch the whole body. Tonight we move through just three shapes — Thread the Needle for the shoulders and upper back, Half-Butterfly for the hips and hamstrings, and Cat Pulling Its Tail for a soft spinal twist — each held for a few slow minutes and worked on both sides, before we rest in stillness. Do it in dim light, right before bed. Come as you are — every pose has a gentler option and a deeper one, and you choose what feels right tonight.

Who this class is for

Anyone who wants to unwind and let the day go before sleep — whether you’re brand new to Yin or already have a practice. This is Day 5 of the Bedtime Challenge, but it stands perfectly well on its own. If you feel wound up, tired, or restless in the evening, this class meets you where you are.

What you need

Just your mat, and somewhere warm and quiet where you can be still. A cushion or folded blanket is lovely to pad the knees, and a couple of blocks can support your forehead in the forward folds — but none of it is required. Press pause any time you need to.

Common questions

Do I need any props for this class?

No — just your mat and a warm, quiet space. If your knees feel sensitive in Thread the Needle or Half-Butterfly you can slip a folded blanket or cushion underneath, and a couple of blocks make a nice tower for your forehead to rest on, but nothing is required.

Which poses does this class include?

Three long-held Yin poses, each worked on both sides — Thread the Needle (sliding back into Child's Pose to rest), Half-Butterfly for the hips and hamstrings, and Cat Pulling Its Tail for a gentle spinal twist — before settling into Corpse pose. Together they give the whole body a slow, even stretch.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes. It's an all-levels bedtime class, and every pose has a gentler option and a deeper one. Find your edge at about 60–80%, hold for the time that feels right, and come out sooner whenever you need to.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
