What this Yin class is

A calm, 30-minute evening Yin class — Day 21 of the bedtime challenge — to gently stretch the whole body and help you unwind before sleep. We settle in with a long butterfly to open the hips and groin, work into the hips and spine with a shoelace twist and some soft neck releases, then create space through the back with sphinx and seal, before resting into child’s pose with side bends to finish. Slow, quiet and soothing from start to end.

Who this class is for

Anyone looking to relax, release the day and prepare the body for sleep. It’s an evening practice with a gentle, encouraging voice to guide you the whole way, and it works whether you’re brand new to Yin or well practiced. New to this? Simply follow the shapes at your own pace and take the gentler option whenever you need it.

What you need

One or two yoga blocks are handy and a cushion is lovely to sit on, though nothing is essential — a folded blanket works just as well. Find a warm, quiet space where you can be still, keep the lights low, and know that every pose here has a gentler option and a deeper one. Press pause whenever you need to.

Common questions

Do I need any props for this class?

One or two yoga blocks are handy, and a cushion is lovely to sit on during butterfly and shoelace, but nothing is essential. If you don't have blocks, a folded blanket or a cushion works just as well — come as you are.

Is this a good class to do right before bed?

Yes — it's part of a bedtime Yin series, designed to help you unwind, relax and let go of the day. Keep the lights low and your movements slow, and if you'd like to drift off even more gently, follow it with the 10-minute guided relaxation Katie links at the end.

Is this suitable if I'm not very flexible?

Absolutely. Yin isn't about how far you go — find your edge at about 60–80%, let the shape do the work, and take the gentler option in any pose whenever you need it. Every pose here has an easier version and a deeper one.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
