What this Yin class is

A gentle 30-minute full-body Yin practice, made with complete beginners in mind. We move slowly through just four poses — Reclined Swan for the hips and glutes, Half-Butterfly for the hamstrings and lower back, Supported Fish to open the chest, and a Reclined Twist for the spine — before settling into a final rest. Each shape is held long and slow, so you can stop reaching and let the pose do the work. Come as you are; there’s a lighter option and a deeper one everywhere, and you’re always welcome to choose the one your body wants today.

Who this class is for

Anyone new to Yin, or anyone who just wants to slow right down and unwind. If you’d like to learn how to be still, follow your breath, and feel your way through a pose rather than force it, you’re in exactly the right place. It’s a lovely practice to return to after a long day, or any time your body is asking for a little space. There’s no rush and nothing to get right — just four spacious holds and permission to soften.

What you need

Your mat, and one block to hand — a firm cushion or a folded blanket works just as well. You might slip it under a knee in Half-Butterfly, and you’ll rest back over it in Supported Fish, so having a second block or cushion nearby for your head is a nice touch if you’d like more support. Beyond that, all you need is your breath and a warm, quiet corner where you can be still. Press pause whenever you need to.

Common questions

Is this class really okay for absolute beginners?

Yes — it's made for you. We move through just four gentle poses, each one held long and slow, and I talk you into every shape step by step. There are no tricky transitions and no alignment to worry about. As I always say, as long as you're feeling something, you're doing the pose just fine.

What props do I need?

One block is ideal — a firm cushion or a folded blanket works just as well. You might use it to support a knee in Half-Butterfly, and to rest on in Supported Fish. If you'd like a second block or a cushion to cradle your head, that's welcome too, but nothing here is essential.

How do I know how far to go into each pose?

Come only to the first point of resistance — that first hint of sensation — and pause there. You never need to pull or push or force. If, after a while, the feeling starts to fade, that's your body inviting you a little deeper, so you can ease in gently. Come out any time you feel pain.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
