What this Yin class is

A full hour of Yin to stretch the whole body and truly relax — Class 3 of the Create Peaceful Moments series, though it stands perfectly well on its own. We begin seated with alternate nostril breathing to settle the mind, then move slowly through the shoulders with a supported release and Broken Wing, open the hips with Deer, Swan and Dragon, and wind down on our backs before a long, restful Savasana. The holds are generous, so there’s plenty of time to soften and let go. Come as you are — every pose has a gentler option and a deeper one.

Who this class is for

Anyone who wants an unhurried, full-body stretch that leaves you calmer than it found you — lovely at the end of a busy day or any time you need to drop out of your head. It’s a friendly hour for newer students too; nothing is rushed, and I talk you into and out of every shape. New to Yin? Read the pose notes below first, then follow along at your own pace.

What you need

Your mat and two yoga blocks nearby — we use them to support the shoulders and lift the hips, though a cushion works just as well. A warm, quiet space where you can be still, and a blanket close by if you tend to cool down in the final rest. Press pause whenever you need to.

Common questions

Do I need any props for this class?

Two yoga blocks are lovely to have nearby — we rest our hands on them in the shoulder release and use them to lift the hips in Swan and Dragon. If you don't have blocks, a couple of firm cushions or thick books work just as well, and every one of those moments has an option without them. Come as you are.

What does this hour actually cover?

We open seated with alternate nostril breathing and some gentle side stretches and twists, then release the shoulders with a supported fold and Broken Wing. From there we move through the hips with Deer, Sleeping Swan, Dragon and Dragonfly on both sides, wind down on our backs, and finish in a long, restful corpse pose.

Do I need to have done the earlier classes in the series?

Not at all. This is Class 3 of the Create Peaceful Moments series, but the classes work in any order and each one stands on its own. Press play whenever it suits you, and follow the shapes at your own pace.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
