What this Yin class is

An hour of deep, full-body stretching with long three-minute holds to help you unwind and let go. We warm the spine in child’s pose, open the shoulders with thread the needle and broken wing on both sides, then move into the hips with dragon and a gentle twisted dragon. From there we lengthen the backs of the legs in dangling, settle into a long squat, unwind the back with cat pulling its tail, and rest it all in for a full corpse pose. Slow, spacious and deeply releasing from start to finish.

Who this class is for

Anyone who wants a proper hour to stretch out and switch off, guided the whole way through. A few of the shapes are a touch more intermediate, so it suits you if you’ve practiced a little Yin before — though there’s always a gentler option, and you’re welcome to take it. Lovely after a long day or a busy week.

What you need

Just your mat and a warm, quiet space where you can be still for an hour. A couple of yoga blocks or a cushion are nice to have nearby for a little support — under your hips, hands or seat — but nothing is required. Every pose has a gentler option and a deeper one, so meet yourself wherever you are today and press pause whenever you need to.

Common questions

Do I need props for this class?

No — you can do the whole hour with just your mat. If you have a couple of yoga blocks or a cushion nearby they're lovely for a little support under your hips in child's pose, under your hands in dragon, or beneath you in squat, but they're entirely optional. Come as you are.

Is this class suitable if I'm a beginner?

Some of the shapes here — like high flying dragon and squat — sit at a slightly more intermediate level, so I'd call this an intermediate class. That said, every pose has a gentler option, the holds are always yours to shorten, and if squat isn't accessible you're welcome to rest in a wide-leg child's pose or happy baby instead. Listen to your body and never push.

How long do we hold each pose?

Most poses are held for around three minutes, which is where the deep release happens. Three minutes is a guideline, not a rule — if you need to come out sooner, please do. You should always feel able to stay a little longer, never as though you're forcing or straining.

A gentle reminder: Yin asks you to respect your limits, not override them. Come out of any pose that feels like pain rather than sensation, ease off if your hands tingle or a knee complains, and take your time coming out of the long holds — the body feels tender for a moment, and that passes. This practice is about taking good care of your body, never pushing it.
